Why Is My BMW Overheating?

Why Is My BMW Overheating?

Caring for your engine and properly maintaining your vehicle is critical to the process of preserving the integrity of a BMW, but sometimes issues such as an overheating engine may arise even when putting your best efforts forward. BMWs have earned an impressive track record over time and are well-known for their consistent performance over the course of longer periods, but like any other vehicle, this can not be possible without following a regular maintenance schedule

If you notice that your engine is consistently overheating or your vehicle needs attention in a different area, our team of certified technicians here at Park Ave BMW can tend to the issue as soon as possible. Before you stop in though, it’s important to understand some of the reasons that typically contribute to an overheating engine.

Why is my BMW Overheating?

Clogged Cooling System

While it’s essentially in the name, if you’re not already aware of what coolant systems do, they cool the engine of your BMW and allow it to maintain an appropriate temperature. Unfortunately, these systems can become clogged over time with debris or natural buildup and could be susceptible to thermostat malfunctionings that prevent the coolant from circulating properly throughout the engine.

Coolant Leak

Much like the air conditioning in your home, when the warmer months begin to roll in, outside temperatures rise and force your air conditioning to work harder than usual. Engine coolant works the same way. These systems can become vulnerable to leaks and if one were to show up on your vehicle, it will cause your coolant levels to drop, causing the engine to overheat.

Water Pump Failure

The water pump, potentially the most critical component of the cooling system, is what helps the continuous circulation of coolant flowing to the engine. When a pump starts to wear out and is ready to be replaced, it’s important to do so as soon as possible or your engine can become compromised and begin overheating.
